Time Card Calculator

Enter start and end times for each day to total your weekly hours, see overtime over 40 hours, and estimate gross pay at your hourly rate.

Formula

Weekly total = the sum of (end − start − unpaid break) for each day. Overtime = hours over 40 in the week, paid at 1.5 × the regular hourly rate.

Example: five 8-hour days (40 hours) plus a 4-hour Saturday is 44 hours. At $20 an hour, regular pay is 40 × $20 = $800 and overtime pay is 4 × $30 = $120, so gross pay is $920.

Frequently asked questions

When does overtime start?

Under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, non-exempt employees must be paid at least 1.5 times their regular rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek. Some states, such as California, also require overtime after a set number of hours in a single day.

How does the calculator treat overnight shifts?

If the end time is earlier than the start time, the shift is counted as running past midnight and is added to the day it started.

Does it apply state overtime rules?

No. It applies only the weekly 40-hour rule. Daily overtime, double time and exempt status are not modeled.

What does a skipped row mean?

A row is skipped when only one of its times is filled in, when the start and end are identical, or when the break is longer than the shift.
