Fuel Cost Calculator

Estimate the gas needed and the cost of a trip from the distance, your car's fuel economy and the price per gallon.

Formula

Gallons = miles ÷ mpg. Cost = gallons × price per gallon. Cost per mile = cost ÷ miles.

Example: 300 miles at 25 mpg needs 12 gallons. At $3.50 a gallon, that is $42.00, or 14 cents per mile.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my car's mpg?

Fill the tank, reset the trip meter, drive as usual, then refill. Divide the miles driven by the gallons you added. Many cars also show average mpg on the dashboard.

How do I calculate a round trip?

Double the distance, or enter the one-way distance and multiply the result by two.

Does it include tolls, parking or wear and tear?

No. It estimates fuel only.
